Rich Blk (‘black’), is a Spoken Word Hip Hop music artist: previous award winner (Supafine’s: Best Live Hip Hop act 2011) & previous Farrago Poetry Slam winner.
Rich Blk’s works extensively with the 3rdStream music collective. The project celebrates the UK’s progressive music & creative community by seamlessly merging the worlds of Hip Hop Afro-Electronica, Poetry and Art with a fresh perspective on Spoken word Hip Hop lyricism & personal subject matter.
Rich Blk has featured on several music projects: ‘Bushmeat’ by T.Roy/Broadcite, DJ Psykhomantus, Son of Dan, Dj Misbehaviour, CDR among others and independently released debut album ‘RA:P.S.C.R.I.P.T’ produced by Dj Mr Hagan and Amplified’s Zak Akhimien. This project featured memorable performances by Roger Robinson (King Midas Sound), Vanessa Richards (Mannafest), novelist Courttia Newland & the multi-talented Mikey Gusto.
Rich Blk has performed and hosted in numerous venues all over London including Sadler’s Wells, The Albany, BAC, Jazz Café, Millennium Dome, ICA, Africa Centre, to name a few. Richard has twice performed at the Sabolai Radio Music Festival in Accra, Ghana and also graced the stage in New York, Amsterdam and Sydney, featured on Sky Digital, (RAW TV, OHTV) Channel 4, BET (USA) and radio: BBC Radio 1Xtra, Choice FM & Bang FM. He is a founding panel member on Blogger’s Delight, a topical live debate show that has featured a host of London’s finest creative talents.
Rich Blk’s poetry has been published in print; ‘RED: Contemporary Black British Poetry’ anthology by Peepal Press and ‘IC3: Contemporary Black Writing in Britain’ by Penguin (as ‘blkmale’). Richard also conceptualised, produced and edited the ‘These Are Our Friends’ poetry pamphlet for Women’s Health Rights Charity FORWARD UK. His writing and photographic work include commissions by Africa Fashion Guide, Style Canteen: Fashion & Style Blog, Lets Be Brief, Black British Blacklist and Parlour Magazine.
